And they’re off …

One of the best things about living in the Capital District is the Saratoga racing season.  It’s the August place to be!  Well, the season has been opening earlier over the past couple of years so end of July place to be too.  Almost every Sunday, if not every, they have a giveaway.  Today was the Saratoga baseball cap.  Admission is $3.00 and with that you get a ticket to redeem your free gift.  Some people aren’t content with just one and go in and out of the gates, paying $3.00 each time, so they can get however many they feel they need.  These people are called spinners and I bet if you check e-bay right now, you’ll see the Saratoga hat there.  Who knew there would be such a market.  I just paid once and got one hat, I don’t even weat hats.  LOL  Oh but all the ladies (the rich ones) are dressed to the nines with big beautiful hats.  Saratoga attracts a lot of people from downstate (NYC), that’s where the money’s at.

I did well on the first two races, picked both winners!  Don’t get too excited for me, I only place $2.00 bets.  I ended up $6.40 ahead of the game.  WOO HOO!!  With one day at the tack under my belt I’ll be all prepared when we go this Thursday with work.  Nothing like an afternoon off from work!

  1. Cool. How Fun!!!! I love horse-racing. And some of those ladies do get a lil carried away with the hats! I’ve seen it at the Preakness, down this way. And Kim, I’m sorry I made you cry :(

  2. You sound like a woman after my own heart! I grew up around Louisville and went to many, many races at Churchill Downs over the years, but $2 bets were always my limit. I usually made enough back to cover the beer and the program. Of course, I have been known to splurge on the Derby and place a $10 bet, but that’s more like a donation, because I have only ever picked the Derby winner once in all my life!
    God bless.
