Group rallies against Spitzer’s licensing plan

ALBANY, N.Y. — Tensions are high, and people are angry. There was a rally on the steps of the Capitol Monday against Governor Spitzer’s plan to give illegal immigrants driver’s licenses.
A group called New Yorkers Against Driver’s Licenses for Illegal Aliens held the protest to show what they call overwhelming opposition to his plan.
Organizers say illegal immigrants should not have the privilege of getting driver’s licenses, since they are violating federal law by coming into the country illegally. They say Governor Spitzer’s action of continuing to ignore other lawmakers and citizens is “pushing ahead against the will of the people.”
“He was upholding the laws, now he’s stepping on the laws. It’s just not right,” said John O’Grady.
“We are crippled. We are crippled here with this governor. I believe he should be impeached,” said Cindy Ginsburgh.
Governor Spitzer continues to stand by his plan, saying his proposal is the right thing to do, and that most of the opposition stems from a misunderstanding of the facts.
My question is if we (the USA) start giving illegal immigrants the benefits of being a legal citizen then do legal citizens have the right to stop paying taxes and still be given the same benefits? I think not. Where do we stop? Do we give social security benefits, welfare, medicare, medicaid to a group of people who never contributed to the system? A system that will be unable to assist American citizens who have paid into the system all their lives and will not be able reape the benefit in the future. They are committing a crime coming to the USA illegally and should be treated as a criminal. We need to stop giving such thought and legal rights to any illegal immigrant and start deporting them back to their respective countries. I have no problem with anyone who come to the USA via legal channels and not crossing the border in the middle of the night.

I agree Jo! And how about voting …this opens the door for them to register to vote and that I believe is what this is all about. Craziness, craziness I tell you!
Terri, you’re so right
