Book On Hold?!

Jaliek Rainwalker book put on hold

Attorney for adoptive parents of missing boy calls the authors’ work “exploitative”

A book being written about a missing Greenwich boy has been halted — at least for now — by an attorney representing his adoptive parents.

Jeffrey McMorris sent a cease and desist letter on Jan. 31 to the book’s authors on behalf of Jocelyn McDonald and Stephen Kerr.

Their son, 12-year-old Jaliek Rainwalker, has been missing since Nov. 1. Police have referred to Kerr as a “person of interest” in his son’s disappearance because of inconsistent accounts he has given about his whereabouts on that night. Rainwalker was last seen with Kerr.

McMorris on Sunday called the book that was being worked on “exploitative” and said no one had sought permission to print the names of Kerr and McDonald’s minor children.

“The question we would ask of these people is ‘how it would lead to Jaliek coming home?’ ” McMorris said.

Kerr also filed notice on Friday that he will sue the Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department, claiming that officers “crusaded” against him and acted improperly when executing a search warrant.

The authors, Stephen Gnojewski and Alexander DeFazio of Jersey City, N.J., were writing a book tentatively titled “An Inconvenient Child.” They could not be reached for comment late Sunday.

The letter warned that Kerr and McDonald had not given their consent for the book. Proceeds from the book were to be used to provide post-adoptive services for Capital Region families and for services to children who have passed out of the foster care system. A Web site for the project has been disabled.

Elaine Person, Jaliek’s former foster mother and head of the Find Jaliek Task Force, said the authors decided they did not have the resources to fight Kerr and McDonald’s attorney. Still, she said the project would continue. She said she has been supplying the writers with notes for the book.

“The purpose of the book is not to agitate Steven (Kerr) but rather to show what a wonderful child Jaliek was,” Person said.

A local author has volunteered to continue the book project, she said, even though Kerr and McDonald say the writer does not have permission to use their son’s name in any published work.

“The ending has not been written yet,” Person said.

“We don’t want any other child to have to live the way he did.”

  1. And the plot thickens….it does appear the Kerr’s are afraid of something does’nt it?….Not the way parents of a missing child would normally react….but than again nothing about this situation appears “normal”!

  2. He spends more time finding reasons to sue people. I wish he would just cooperate with authorities and people wouldn’t need to write a book. Everything he does is going to get a negative reaction. I think its time for something positive to come out of this like closure for this child.

  4. Good Morning Ladies!

Kerr is a real piece of work. He knows it’s just a matter of time so he’s trying everything he can to put the focus elsewhere. He’s most likely using his daddy’s money to fund all of this nonsense.

I am REALLY hoping to hear news today on what was taken from the house.

  6. Hello Donna!

You hit the nail on the head. LE is closing in on what happened to Jaliek and it’s only a matter of time before the truth is known. Smoke screens, that’s all Stephen Kerr can hide behind. He whines about being persecuted in the court of public opinion but all he ever does is make people question him more.

  7. Karen,

I missed your last comment because I was commenting myself 🙂

I think Kerr loves the attention that he is brining upon himself. Loves it, thrives on it!

  8. I think we all agree….Kerr’s time is running out….the truth is surfacing and he’s scared to death!
Blessings to Mr. and Mrs.Persons and the crew over at the “Find Jaliek Task Force” web site. They have done all they can and more to bring the true Jalick to the public eye.Not the Jalick Kerr/McDonald would have us believe.
Is Kerr’s next move going to be trying to shut this site down?As well as all blogs operating on Jalicks behalf>

It won’t happen! The axe is about to fall!

  9. I do wonder if he is following all the media attention and all the blogs on the topic of Jaliek? Looks to me like Stephen is good at blowing smoke, everytime they get close he finds a way to re focus the investigation. This should be a lesson to police, when a child goes missing it might be better to handle like a missing child case, instead of just going on the fathers account. I am sure Greenwich wanted it to be a runaway case and they thought Jaliek would be back with in hours. because that is how Stephen made it seem. I am sure Stephen told a good story, and I think he had some time to pull things together before he actually had police contact. I do not think this was premeditated, I think it happened, I think Stephen snapped, I am sure he has been under pressure his whole life from his father to turn out good to be someone, and all the pressure is what made Stephen turn out to be who he is.I think he heard about his fathers degrees his whole life that he could not live up to his fathers expectations. I think Jocelyn provided Stephen with the love and compassion he lacked his whole life. I think they went into having a house full of children with very good intentions, but then Stephen became mentally ill, which caused strain in the family. I don’t know. I am trying to see the whole picture not just Jalieks end of it but the whole family as a system. I do believe they are in crisis right now like Jocelyn said in the interview, and she is the one trying to fix it all and make it all better. Stephen is a very ill man and needs help.Sorry Kim for going on and on.

  10. Karen,

If Kerr starts trying to shut down websites then he should be carted off to the funny farm. He’s a loon anyway. IMO/JMO Freedom of speech Mr. Kerr. I still haven’t figured out how he can stop the book from being written, the authors must have been scared off because I can’t see how this could be legal. Oh God, I sound like Kerr. LOL

  11. Hi Kalley, You can go on and on if you like 🙂 We all enjoy reading each others comments.

I do believe that Kerr is following as many sites/blogs as he can. Under statistics I can see how people get to my blog. This includes links and google searches. It’s the google searches that are most telling and I do believe that Kerr knows about my blog.

I still hope that Jaliek is alive, for some reason I cannot let that hope fade until proven otherwise. At the same time, I wasn’t born yesterday and we all have seen how many of these cases end up. IF Stephen Kerr harmed Jaliek I do not feel as if it was a planned act. I’m with you when you say that he probably snapped that night. Judging from how long it took Kerr to report Jaliek missing I would say he panicked and went to Jocelyn for advice. He seems to think that he can get away with the stories that he told of a runaway boy, gangs in Albany or living with an African American family.

As for Jocelyn, I maintain that she has been brainwashed to believe anything that Kerr tells her. IMO/JMO She obviously loves Stephen and deep down probably feels very scared and alone.

  12. I can say this, Jaliek probably came home from the Person’s house with happy thoughts and fun times. Elaine and Tom, I met both in person with my children. It was the best afternoon I have had with my kids in a long time. The kids are still talking about it. Elaine and Tom are such kind people and make you feel welcome and at ease. I am sure Jaliek enjoyed it there, any kid would.
