According to Kim

St. Baldrick’s

with 5 comments

Hi guys!  I’m sure everyone remembers Alex Handy, daughter of Kalley who is a faithful reader and commenter.  Little Alex was diagnosed with leukemia and I’m happy to report that she is home and is doing well.

Today I received an email from Joy, one of Jaliek’s former foster parents.  She wanted to let me know about an event that will be held Sunday March 30th at the Albany Pump Station.  What will Joybe doing at this event?  Why she’s shaving her head!  Kalley is too and it’s for a great cause.

St. Baldrick’sbegan as a casual conversation between friends and has exploded into the world’s biggest volunteer-driven fundraising program for childhood cancer! In eight years, events have taken place in 18 countries and 46 US states, raising over $34 million, and shaving more than 46,000 heads.

If you don’t mind going bald (hey it grows back) and a big heart please join Joy and Kalley at the Albany Pump Station on March 30th.

  1. Just to let you know, Kalley planned all of this. I’m just jumping in at the last minute to support her and Alex. Hair grows back, so why not if it can help Alex. Please visit Alex’s CaringBridge at:

Have a great trip, Kim, and thanks for getting the info out right away to support Kalley.

  2. I am so excited for the event! Then the benefit for Jaliek all in the same time frame!!! It couldn’t work out better!

  3. Thank You Joy! I have 2 week to go until my trip (going to Vegas) and have lots to do with Easter being early this year. I’m leaving on the 30th so I won’t be able to see you and Kalley get your heads shaved but I will be there in spirit. I’ll be back on April 3rd and will see you on the 5th for Jaliek’s benefit.

Kalley you are such a strong woman! Alex is so lucky to have a mommy like you!

  4. Yes, the timing is great. I hope we can get lots of people to attend both!! I know Kim would be at both if she didn’t have plans to be out of town. Kalley, you should put Alex’s CaringBridge or St. Baldrick’s URL when you comment here or anywhere. Just a thought. I put Jaliek’s org site as mine. When you comment one click to your name sends readers to your site for Alex. Helps spread the word. Love you, Joy

  5. Hi Kim,

Thanks for posting this item. Do update your readers who plan to come and get their heads shaved that they need to register online BEFORE the event at The money raised is in the form of pledges (just like a fund-raising marathon etc.), so it is important any “shavees” get pledges BEFORE they come.

Of course, anyone can come and cheer on Alex’s family!!! And Dr Jennifer Pearce, Alex’s oncologist, will also be getting her head shaved that day! Many thanks for your support.
