Jaliek Rainwalker …6 years later …still missing

with 2 comments

The six-year mark silently came and went.  As I sit searching for any news on Jaliek, I come up empty-handed.

I realize that, for some, silence is golden.  Realize that there are those who have not forgotten.  Justice will eventually be found for Jaliek, it’s just a matter of time.

Where were we six years ago?  If memory serves me right …Jocelyn McDonald’s father was offering a reward of $25,000 for any information leading them to Jaliek.  A reward that would diminish by $5000 after the first of the year if not collected.  Say what?!

Still searching …not forgotten …

Jaliek Rainwalker ~ Presumed Child Homicide

with 3 comments

Just over 5 years since Jaliek Rainwalker was last seen by his adoptive father, Stephen Kerr, there has been a change to the classification of his case.  Jaliek is no longer presumed a runaway but rather a victim of child homicide.  While his story may have quieted down in the news, the investigation has continued.  Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell has said that the yellow fleece jacket that Jaliek was wearing the night he disappeared has been found.  Searches have continued, as recently as this past Tuesday in Troy.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Barbara and Dennis on what must be a difficult day.

NYS Missing Person’s Day

with one comment

NYS Missing Person’s Day was held today at the NYS museum.  I was fortunate enough to attend, although I wish I had gotten there earlier.  There were many familiar faces which is always bitter-sweet.  There were some faces that were absent, I didn’t see a display for Jaliek but his picture was there on the wall and in the presentations.

Kellisue Ackernecht had a nice display with branches from Frog Hollow where her car was found in flames.  People were asked to write a message and hang it on the branch, a very unique display.  Ashley Marie Carroll, Lutricia Steele, Tammie McCormick, George LaForest, Audrey May Herron and Suzanne Lyall were also represented.  Of course all of this would not happen without the drive of Douglas and Mary Lyall whose daughter Suzanne has been missing since March 2, 1998.  They Lyall’s have turned their tragedy into a means to provide support and information to families facing similar situations.  They are an amazing couple and I pray they find the answers that they have been searching for over the past 14 years.

Edward Suk from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was the keynote speaker in the afternoon.  He provided an overview of  the services that NCMEC offers as well as some statistics that were very informative.  He also explained the role technology plays in missing person cases, from predators on-line to how GPS is used in locating missing people.  It was an enlightening presentation and I could have listened to him for hours.

The missing should never be forgotten …everybody counts.

Jaliek’s Story to be told on “Find Our Missing”

with 4 comments

“GREENWICH — The story of missing Washington County boy Jaliek Rainwalker will appear on a national TV show Feb. 1.

“Find Our Missing” was created by TV One. The one-hour show will tell the stories of 18 people of color over the course of 10 episodes who have gone missing throughout the United States. Jaliek, a biracial child, was 12 when he disappeared in 2007 after his adoptive father picked him up from a stay in a respite home in Altamont.”

Reflecting on those who are still missing in the Capital District

with 7 comments

Tonight I find myself thinking of those who are still missing in the Capital District.
Jaliek …I’m wondering where you are?  When will you be found?  How can we retrace the events of that night back in 2007?  Is there something new that could lead to you if we go back to the beginning?
How can all of those who are still missing be found?  What can be done?  Who can do it?  And where would one start?

Jaliek Rainwalker ireport by Barbara Reeley

iReport —

Thirty-nine months ago today, on November 1, 2007, my grandson vanished.

Jaliek Rainwalker was 12 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 106 pounds, wore a size 12 shoe, has light green eyes, blond tinged hair, a light complexion, is bi-racial and has a speech impediment which results in his saying his “r’s” as “w’s”.  Where is my grandson?  Is it possible Jaliek is still alive?

Jaliek Rainwalker’s info on Nancy Grace

with one comment

Jaliek Rainwalker is still missing …missing since November 1, 2007!  It is my understanding that his information will be on Nancy Grace Missing tonight 9:00PM EST.  I’m not sure how long the segment will be but any coverage is good coverage.  Hopefully this will spark someone’s memory that could provide a new lead in his case.
